One problem I’m running into is that I don’t always have a good tool at hand to take a quick note if something comes to mind or if I read something interesting somewhere.

If a thought comes up or when I’m listening to a podcast, I usually don’t have a notebook or my laptop with me. I only reasonably have my phone. I don’t tend to take notes on my phone because I don’t have a process to come back to these notes.

Similarly, when reading books, it’s inconvenient to take notes using my laptop, especially when reading in bed. Taking notes in my notebook feels too slow when I’m taking a lot of notes. I’ve been thinking about reading books in bed and when it is really hitting me as something interesting, to re-read them on my laptop and take notes. That requires me to read books twice, which I consider a pretty big ask.

Tools

  • 🪨 Obsidian: the current tool I’m using for taking notes
  • Logseq: I haven’t used it yet, but looks like an interesting open source alternative to Obsidian.
