I understand that companies and jobs are required to make the world run, but Iโ€™m not convinced they are necessarily good for people. On one hand, it gives people a sense of purpose, which is great. On the other hand, it also restricts employees in their self-development, although companies will always claim that they care about their employeesโ€™ self-development a lot.

The thing is that self-development is a risky investment for a company. It might pay off, but it might not. Companies always want to make money in the end, so they will put limits on that self-development. This turns self-development into an optimization problem, which is very tiring for me.

When working, you are allowed to develop, but only within certain boundaries. Itโ€™s these implicit boundaries that I have a problem with. I very much understand that you receive a salary and as a result, a company can expect something in return, but it does cause a lot of frustration for me.
